Final Week of MWA, and Spring Break

We had a well-earned break last week with Greg Grant’s Spring Break pause, but we wrapped up our Midwest Athletic AAU session with a strong showing. We dominated the Triumph Bulldogs 50-16, focusing on key team goals, but we fell in the semifinals to the Ballplayas 30-40. They pushed us as hard as we expected, and while the loss stings, these challenges only make us better.
Unfortunately, travel basketball continues to struggle with maintaining the integrity of leagues and events. We’ve seen teams prioritize winning over fairness, sometimes registering players beyond the age limits. While some of our kids can compete with high school-level athletes, many of them aren’t quite there yet—but the fact that we’re seen as a threat at this level is a testament to the strength of our program. We take that as a compliment and as fuel to keep growing.
Looking Ahead
We have two more weeks left in the Greg Grant sessions, and our focus is on closing out with a championship run. As we approach the end of this commitment in May, we’re excited to expand our program with two high-level teams—each with nine players, ensuring tighter rotations and significant playing time for everyone. We will continue to train together under one unified system and coaching philosophy. To put it plain, I just want to see more kids get more playing time. There will even be opportunities for our teams to face off against each other!
To support this expansion, we’re adding to our coaching staff and will announce new additions soon. We’re also actively exploring new practice facility options. Basketball City has been a great home for us, but the time has come for a more private space where we can elevate our training experience.
Building the Future
The growth of our Magic family has been incredible, and I truly believe it’s because of the dedication and commitment from our players, parents, and coaches. Our goal is to maximize every player’s potential by increasing on-court time, incorporating targeted training, and helping players refine their individual skill sets. I’ve already spoken with three varsity high school coaches about our athletes, which is an exciting sign of what’s to come.
Final Notes
Track: We want our players running track, please let me know your schedule. If you are not running track I want to understand why.
April 5th: Originally scheduled as a tournament, this will now be the final week of the Greg Grant session due to the Spring Break schedule change.
Next Round: We are actively finalizing our rosters and ensuring a balanced, competitive structure moving forward.
Player Openings: We are specifically looking for four more players—power forwards and centers only. If you know strong candidates, please send them our way. We are not looking for additional guards at this time.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Let’s keep building together—see you all Friday!
Go Magic!
